DAY 1: FRI - ARRIVAL / NAIROBI
JAMBO! Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be met by our representative who will assist you with the transfer to Sarova Panafric Hotel. Before checking in at the hotel, you will be briefed about your program and introduced to the Driver Guide who will be with you throughout the safari. Overnight at the Sarova Panafric Hotel.
DAY 2: SAT - NAIROBI / SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
After breakfast, drive north to 'Born Free' country where Joy and George Adamson raised Elsa the lion cub in the wild and beautiful Shaba National Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch at the luxurious Sarova Shaba Lodge, which is built around natural springs and offers an oasis of green in the midst of this beautiful but harshly arid landscape. The Sarova Shaba Lodge is located high above the Shaba Game Reserve. The lodge cleverly incorporates the beautiful natural springs as one of its special features, this is a perfect base from which to explore The Shaba Reserve. Spend the afternoon discovering the unique wildlife of the reserve, which is famous for its elephants and lions. Return to the lodge in time to relax before dinner in the restaurant which is raised on timbered stilts overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River. Overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge. (B/L/D)
DAY 3: SUN - SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
Spend all day on safari in the reserve. Irrigated by the river, this reserve is home to numerous hippo and crocodiles Shaba offers sanctuary to large herds of elephant, healthy numbers of lion, leopard, cheetah, plentiful plains game, reticulated giraffe, rare Beisa Oryx, kudu and gerenuk. It is also one of the few reserves in which you can see the Grevy’s zebra (rather than the more common Burchell's zebra found elsewhere) and the critically endangered wild dog. Offering 100 species of birds, the reserve is also home to the rare blue-shanked Somali ostrich. Take a tour of the Samburu Village, get to know the Samburu people way of life and culture. DAY 4: MON - SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE / LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast you will to Lake Nakuru, one of the most famous of Africa’s great, shallow soda lakes. This lake is home to hundreds of thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingoes and a great many other water bird species. Upon arrival, you will go on an afternoon game drive and then proceed to your comfortable lodge with spectacular views of the lake for dinner and overnight. Sarova Lion Hill Lodge overlooks one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles, the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge impresses every guest with its panoramic view of the pink shoreline created by the numerous flamingos on Lake Nakuru. The Lodge is situated within the heart of Kenya's Rift Valley, nestled on the banks of one of East Africa's most famous soda lakes, and surrounded by natural flora and fauna in its beautiful grounds. The vista is enjoyable from the privacy of your own verandah. This lodge has 64 rustic chalets, each chalet has a private secluded verandah and en suite bathroom. DAY 5: TUE - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK / MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
After an early breakfast, you will travel to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, backdrop to 'the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth', the annual migration of over one million wildebeest. Arrive in time for lunch at the Mara Sarova Camp, a luxury tented camp. Sarova Mara is set in the African bush but the luxurious tents all have permanent roofs, zip-up fronts, and electricity and en-suite facilities. Relaxing outside your own tent listening to the orchestra of rasping Cicadas, croaking Tree Frogs and the intermittent call of birds and monkeys is a memorable symphony. Afternoon safari in Kenya's most popular reserve. Arrive back in camp in time for a swim, a hot shower, campfire cocktails and dinner in the luxurious central restaurant. DAY 6: WED - MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Your day will be spent on safari in Africa's richest wildlife viewing arena. The Mara has always teemed with wildlife, it hosts Kenya's largest lion prides and elephant herds. Other predators include leopard, cheetah and spotted hyena; while in the Mara River you will see fat pods of hippo and vast Nile crocodiles. You will also see giraffe tops, gazelle, zebra, buffalo and over 550 species of birds. In the evening, enjoy the colorful Masai dances and cultural performances.
Optional activities available while you’re in the Maasai Mara. You can try a balloon safari for an exhilarating experience over the savannah as the early sun rises and the animals are more active. Also an optional visit to a Maasai Village to experience this nomadic tribe’s way of life and see their colorful culture. In the afternoon, a nature walk has been reserved for you at the Sarova Mara, learn about the unique and exotic bird and plant life across this 27 acre property. Overnight at Mara Sarova Camp. DAY 7: THU - MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE / DEPARTURE
Today, enjoy your last game drive to get a final chance to photograph the awesome Masai Mara before driving back to Nairobi, lunch will be on your own account. Upon arrival in Nairobi, enjoy a visit to the Giraffe Center where you will get to touch and feed the Endangered Rotchild Giraffe followed by a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum famous for the award winning movie ‘Out of Africa’. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where you can watch the young orphaned baby elephants playing "soccer" as they are fed and taken care of before they are mature enough to go back to the wild. Spend time doing last minute shopping. At the Carnivore Restaurant famous for its charcoal grilled barbeque, enjoy a farewell dinner. (B/D)
